Cannes (Yes, where that film festival is held)
Oh boredom!

I was warned strongly against coming to Cannes beach, where it is actually sand (opposed to the white pebbles of Nice) – but it is absolutely packed with people, and the beach is crappy anyway. All of the above, but the water looks very dirty. I probably had a romanticised view of Cannes because of the film festival/glamour/stars etc, but no. I had come to the south of France specifically because of the glorious beaches, and Cannes beach was not one of them. The train station reminded me strongly of Blacktown station, which was the biggest indicator of crappiness. The surrounding areas were also quite drab. Fair enough, the beach wasn’t all that bad, but when there are others that are heaps better – why waste a day here?

I really wanted to just lay down and sleep today, but not with all the noise to be honest (it wasn’t even that noisy, I am just whinging like usual). But I wanted to see the blue mediteranean sea, not freaken ocean liners. Oh, I met some French Canadians on the train!

See, those buildings look like the dept of education in blacktown. Anywho – I have heard some horrible things about French Canadians from Australians who’ve stayed in Canada. They are apparently quite racists, and predjudice against people who don’t speak French. They seem to have an imperious and elitist nature about them, but ha ha ha – the French hate them! (French girl upstairs told me). They looked quite miniscule in this country. They were nice enough I suppose, but they were boggarting my seat on the train! The mother was definitely a racist, and their two kids – the father probably wasn’t. But sucked in asswipes, you’re not French.

In conclusion, horrible horrible. Houses look like they’re from Manila. BTW (this city ain’t all bad, there’s heaps to do. There are other beaches around the city that are better than the main one, and the old town is quite nice – but only for shoppers). Peace out!

It’s amazing that more people don’t write about French beaches. There are so many areas along the coast that are enjoyable. I’ve found in my travels that asking the locals where they go – or where the tourists go (normally two different places), you’ll find the very best options. Hasn’t failed me yet.
Kind regards,

I do think that it’s better that tourists don’t reach certain beaches, once tourists get in there, the place changes drastically to meet their needs esp regarding language.
I like that I am forced to speak French in these areas, the language will preserve their culture. Go the French.
